My dog pees on the bed and/or sofa

Il mio cane fa pipì sul letto e\o divano. Cause e soluzioni

How many of you have had your dog peed on the bed or sofa? Unfortunately, it happens much more often than you might think. The cause of this bad behavior may be difficult to identify, but it is precisely by identifying it that you will be able to solve the problem once and for all. Here are some ideas:

Age! If your dog is still a puppy it could be difficult for him to identify where he can pee and where he can't. It is necessary to create precise reference points that are not changed continuously. Creating a routine for when he has to go down to do his business could also help him. So respect precise times!

Stress! Sources of stress or anxiety could accentuate this problem. Unfortunately these two factors play bad tricks on your dog who, unable to control himself, will pee in the safest place for him. Your bed!

The territory! Your adult dog may want to mix his scent with yours. Why not do it near the bed or on the bed where your scent is well impregnated on the sheets and duvet? He may instead want to communicate a discomfort, for example due to the fact that he previously had access to that room but now he no longer does and therefore by peeing he will want to communicate his discomfort.

Lack of a kennel! If his kennel is occupied by someone else or he doesn't have his own space to curl up or rest, he may need to occupy a space that isn't his!

Remedies:

In addition to the intervention of a dog trainer, who could definitively help you understand the cause and how to behave with your dog, you could intervene with small measures. You could think of temporarily limiting access to that particular point with chairs or other objects to be placed laterally or on top of the bed. Do not scold him afterwards, he might not understand the reason, and would only feel guilty without knowing why. If instead you were to catch him in the act, we can stop that gesture and calmly take him elsewhere.

And how did you solve it?
